SCUSD Board of Education

Overview

The SCUSD Board of Education has eight members, seven of whom are elected by trustee area and serve 4-year terms. An eighth member is the student member who has an advisory vote. The student member is selected from the high school Student Advisory Committee and serves for one year. The Superintendent is the ex-officio Secretary to the Board.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 20 United States Code (20 USC) Section 1400 et seq. and related federal regulations, require each special education local plan area (SELPA) to ensure a continuum of program options are available to meet the needs of students with disabilities for special education and related services.

SELPA Annual Reports

Overview

SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) annual reports are documents prepared by and for SELPAs in California to provide an overview of their activities, performance, and financial status related to special education services. 

Key Components of SELPA Annual Reports:

Demographic Data: Information on the number and characteristics of students with disabilities served within the SELPA, including types of disabilities and placement options.

Performance Metrics: Data on how well the SELPA is meeting state and federal performance indicators, including academic achievement, graduation rates, and post-secondary outcomes for students with disabilities.

Fiscal Information: A detailed breakdown of the SELPA’s budget, including sources of funding (e.g., federal, state, local), expenditures, and any financial audits.

Program Descriptions: An overview of the special education programs and services offered within the SELPA, including innovative practices, professional development activities, and any new initiatives.

Compliance and Accountability: Information on how the SELPA is meeting state and federal compliance requirements, including results of any monitoring activities and corrective actions taken.

Stakeholder Engagement: Description of how the SELPA engages with parents, educators, and other stakeholders in the planning and delivery of special education services.

Goals and Future Plans: A summary of the SELPA’s goals for improving special education services in the future and any strategic plans to address identified needs or gaps in services.
